Wairarapa South was a former
New Zealand parliamentary electorate, from 1881 to 1887.The Wairarapa South electorate in the
Wairarapa district ofNew Zealand and the adjacent Wairarapa North electorate were formed in 1881 by splitting the old Wairarapa electorate.These electorates only existed for two elections from 1881 to 1887, when Wairarapa North was renamed Masterton, and Wairarapa South became the new Wairarapa electorate.
Wairarapa South was centered on the smaller Wairarapa towns of Featherston, Greytown, Carterton and
Martinborough . Wairarapa North was centered on the largest Wairarapa town ofMasterton , with its southern boundary south of Masterton.Member of Parliament
Wairarapa South was represented by one MP,
Walter Clarke Buchanan , for all six years. In 1887, he won the Wairarapa seat.References
