Karl Ernest Papf (

He studied in the Academy of Fine Arts of Dresden and in 1867, was hired for the profession of
photographer by the firm of his compatriotAlbert Henschel . He initially worked inRecife until 1872, then inSalvador until 1877 and, always in service of the atelier "Albert Henschel & Cia.", as a witness to the " Almanaque Laemmert", he moved toRio de Janeiro where he encountered a better environment for the development of his worksIn Rio de Janeiro
Papf arrived in the capital of the Empire in 1877. In that same year he became paintor of the Imperial Family, portraiting, among other people, Princess Isabel, Conde D'Eu, and the
Prince of Grão Pará .In the next year, Papf made one of his best landscapes, the "Praia do Cavalão" ("Cavalão Beach"), curiously the same theme, but in a different angle, painted by
Georg Grimm .He appreciated the Brazilian orchids that he cultivated in
Petropolis , where he determined his residence. More than once the beautiful and exotic flowers were the subject of his privileged brush.Reference
