Raymond H. Joyce

Raymond H. Joyce

Raymond Hewlett Joyce (Chinese:趙立德) (d. 29 March, 1992) was a missionary to China with the China Inland Mission. He continued to work with Muslim people around the world after he was expelled from China by the Communists.

He was born in China to CIM parents, and grew up in Honan.

He was stationed with Otto Schoerner in Qitai, Xinjiang, China. In 1938, after nearly six years in Xinjiang, Joyce, together with Otto Schoerner and Will Drew traveled overland to India and then sailed to Shanghai, arriving there November 20, 1938. Both he and Schoerner had brides waiting for them in Shanghai, and Joyce married Catherine Mona Miller in January of 1939. Afterwards they were stationed in Dali, Yunnan. While in Yunnan he was in correspondence with Samuel Zwemer. [Samuel Zwemer, Heirs of the Prophet, pg. 104-105]

Because of typhoid Raymond had to take a furlough to Canada and Britain in 1941. They returned to Dali, Yunnan in 1946 to work with Muslims there, but were expelled by the communists in 1951.

Back in Canada (still 1951) he and Mona started the North America branch of Fellowship of Faith for Muslims, in Toronto. Raymond was Executive Director of it.

They also served for a time in the Middle East.

There is a memorial library for him in Toronto. [ [http://ffmna.org/library.html FFM.Toronto - Our Services ] ]
