The website [http://www.malankaracatholicchurch.net/ms%20publications.html of the Catholicate] comments on the book,"Salvific Law" examines the relationship between salvation and Law focusing in particular on the "Code of Canons of the Oriental Churches" CCEO. The book begins with an examination of man's need for salvation and man's need for law from both historical and theological perspectives. A detailed analysis of CCEO follows, revealing that the CCEO is not only a legal code to govern the church, but more importantly it serves as a "vehicle of love" ("Caritatis Vehiculum") to bring all mankind to the salvation of Jesus Christ." Source for Research

Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI has imparted the Apostolic Blessing to "an inscribed copy" of "Salvific Law". [Monsignor Gabriele Caccia, "Letter to The Reverend Thomas Kuzhinapurath", dated September 23, 2008, Secreteriate of State, First Section, General Affairs] Bishop Dr. Dimitri Salachas, an authority in oriental canon law qualified the work as "a master's doctoral work." [Dimitri Salachas, Email to Thomas Kuzhinapurath, dated December 16, 2000] Ladislas Orsy evaluated the book as "an outstanding-precious work." [Ladislas Orsy's mail to Thomas Kuzhinapurath dated 17 September, 2008 1:38 AM] Within short time "Salvific Law" attracted the attention of research scholars. Jason Morin has showed his interest in the work by writing the following words to the author:"I am a canon lawyer working towards my JCD in Ottawa Canada at St. Paul University. I am studying the writings of Ladislas Orsy and the influence Bernard Lonergan had on his writings. My JCL thesis was on the notion of salvific law in the CIC/83 particularly on the necessity of canon law in achieving the Church's goal of saving souls (canon 1752). This topic is extremely important to me and although there are some writings on this, there hasn't been a masterful work written that I am aware of. That is until I did a random search on Wikipedia this afternoon for Ladislas Orsy (wondering if he was included or not). Since he was, I was able to follow some internal links which lead me to your writeup. From there I was made aware of your doctoral thesis!.....Thank you again for this. I hope to use your thesis as a reference in my own." [Jason Morin, Email to Thomas Kuzhinapurath, dated July 31, 2008]

Review

Dr. Daniel G. Fulton has commented in a supplement of "L'Osservatore Romano", "Salvific Law" succeeds in demonstrating that the "Code of Canons of the Oriental Churches" has a particular congruence with the Divine Will. The aim of both is salvation of souls. While this book will be of interest to theologians and canonists, it is also particularly suited for priests and even laity. The sections regarding the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Penance demonstrate how God's saving love for man is made manifest in Canon Law." [Daniel G. Fulton, Book Review, "L'Osservatore Romano", (Malayalam Edition Supplement) 1/21 (2008) p.vi.]

Philip Chempakassery has reviewed this book in the following words, "Salvific Law is a precious book on law highlighting the fact that the law has a salvific nature. The author Fr. Thomas Kuzhinapurath, who is a specialist in Oriental Canon Law had his studies in Pontifical Oriental Institute, Rome. He publishes his research findings for the degree of Doctorate in Canonical studies in this volume. ...The author has written these pages after a hair-spliting perusal of all that has been written on the subject. This fact is proved by the long bibliography given at the end of the book. ...And he concludes that,"The supreme function of Canon Law is to help the Christian faithful to lead a life, which is oriented towards the ultimate communion with God." [ Philip Chempakassery, "Book Review", "Aikya Samiksha", 4/2,2007]
