The Barstable School, also known as The Federation of Chalvedon School and Sixth Form College and Barstable Schools and The East Basildon School is a mixed intake secondary school in Basildon, Essex. The school is for students aged 11-16 (school years 7-11). The school is currently run by headmaster Alan Roach, who incidentially, is also head of Chalvedon School and Sixth Form College. Barstable recently received a vastly improved Ofsted inspection, bringing the school up to standard requirements. The school has received the Sportsmark designation and is part of Creative Partnerships.

History

The Barstable School first opened in the early 1960s as the Barstable Grammar and Technical School. In 1968, the Grammar and Technical School under the Headmaster G G Whitehead merged with the Timberlog Secondary Modern School. When the two schools merged into one school, it took the name of Barstable School.

The Federation of Chalvedon and Barstable Schools

As of January 2006, the school has become part of a federation with local school, Chalvedon School. They are both currently run by headmaster Alan Roach. In Mr. Roach's own words:

"As Principal from January 2006, I look forward to leading Barstable School from strength to strength. Mrs Jones, Associate Principal, and I take very seriously our responsibility for the children and for the future of the School.

Our vision is one in which the high standard of education provided is reflected in all pupils’ progress and achievement. Our hope is that most of our pupils will continue their education in our College. Pupils already know that we have the highest expectations of them and that there can be no compromise in standards of attainment, attendance and behaviour. They also know that we will not compromise on the quality of teaching or in our efforts to provide the best possible learning environment."
