Norwegianism

Norwegianism

A norwegianism ("norvagisme" in Norwegian) is a linguistic term that describes a word or a phrase of Norwegian origin in a different language. Though Norwegian influence on other languages is rather scarce, there are some notable examples:

*fjord
*quisling
*ski
*slalom ("slalåm" in Norwegian)
*ombudsman (from Norwegian or Swedish)

The term can also be used for a Norwegian word or phrase erratically translated directly into another language.

More generally the word could be understood to mean a pro-Norwegian ideology, but as such it would have to be considered a neologism.
