Ojinaga , ChihuahuaMexico . Polo Urías was formerly the lead singer ofLos Rieleros del Norte , but in the 1990s, he went on to form his own band, Polo Urías y su Maquina Norteña. Some of his most popular hits are "Veinte Años", "Una Aventura", and "Mi Primer Amor".Polo Urías was born in the rural mountains of northern
Chihuahua , near the border town ofOjinaga . Urías recalls that when he was very young he would often sing in while plowing in the fields with his mules, without any accordions, guitars, or musical instruments. Although Polo Urías' band is currently based inHobbs, New Mexico , USA, the city of Ojinaga has officially honored Polo Urías because of his contributions to Mexican norteño music.It has also impacted the city ofOdessa, Texas in particular thus the mayor of the city Larry Melton honored him the key to the city and naming every 15th of November Polo Urias Day. Its a great honor the singer says because he knows all the people that watched him grown live mainly in this city of about 100,000. Today, he has gone on to form the band Polo Urías y su Maquina Norteña ("Polo Urías and his Engine of the North"), which is extremely popular in the regional Mexican radio in both theUnited States andMexico .Polo Urías has eleven siblings, many of whom are also members of norteño bands. He is also the uncle of
Adolfo Urías , another norteño singer. His latest release "Y sigue la maquina dando" featuring the hit single "Porque Volviste" has become a hit in the U.S. In 2006,Polo Urias bought a brand newBus valued at over $250,000. On April 2007, A Tour Bus which had been part of Polo Urias since the beginning of the group burned en route.
