St. James's Place plc (lse|STJ) is a leading British-based life assurance and unit trust business. It is headquartered in Cirencester and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.

History

The business was founded by Mike Wilson, Sir Mark Weinberg and Lord Rothschild in 1991 as "J Rothschild Assurance Group". It subsequently changed its name to "St.James's Place Capital plc". In 2000 Halifax Building Society took a 60% shareholding in the business.
