Springfield Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in Springfield, Virginia, located at the intersection of Interstate 95 and Route 644 (Franconia Road). It was constructed in 1972 by developer Arthur M. Fischer and expanded in the late 1980s. This mall's DMV Express office was where two of the hijackers in the September 11, 2001 attacks, Hani Hanjour and Khalid Almihdhar, illegally obtained state identification. Redevelopment

In 2006, Vornado announced preliminary plans to redevelop the mall area, which would including adding a town-center component, upgrading the retailer mix and adding office and residential space.
