Brown waste

Brown waste

Brown Waste is biodegradable waste that is dry, such as papers and dry leaves or wood products. Brown waste may include such items as dry leaves, twigs, hay, paper, sawdust, dryer lint, corn cobs, cardboard, pine needles or cones, etc. [ [http://compostguide.com/ How to Make Compost, a Composting Guide] ] Used in making compost, there must be a combination of green waste and brown waste in order to properly produce compost. [ [http://www.ciwmb.ca.gov/organics/Homecompost/ California Integrated Waste Management Board - Home Composting] ] Brown waste items are any dry materials that are high in carbon. The green waste fraction of the overall waste stream is important as a biodegradable waste. If the waste is not either composted or anaerobically digested and it is disposed of in landfill it is an environmental liability. Biodegradable waste in landfill breaks down to biogas containing methane, which if not captured is a potent greenhouse gas and contributes to global warming.
