Kentsis (aka Ashkael) and Andrew V. Zakharov (aka Devil) who are the creators and owners. The creators have focused on and have developed a solid user interface. Unlike computer programs of today text based games rely on this player interaction instead of flashy computer programming. Text based games usually involve allocating a number of commodities or resources in the game, and then allowing the player to alter how these resources are used. This allows for each player to develop a style of game play that suits how he or she likes to play. This also introduces a wide range of variability in player strength and in the case of mars a power leader of a colony on mars.

Mars2025 is an off shoot of the text based MMOG Earth 2025, designed and maintained by Mehul Patel of Swirve fame. Mars 2025 was developed after Dmitry M. Kentsis and Andrew V. Zakharov (computer programmers themselves) decided to take matters into there own hands after many promised changes to Earth 2025 never took place. As a result both Dmitry and Andrew goal for mars 2025 is to make it compatible in many different players by breaking down language barriers. They have done this by making available a language-conversion tool so that players may communicate flawlessly with others in different languages. Game story

The Year is 2025. Human technological advancement has risen to incredible heights and Mankind has taken its first determined steps into space - establishing colonies both on Mars and the Moon. However, despite the advantages science has provided, human nature hasn’t changed. Greed, envy, and intolerance have, as always, found new and nastier forms. One tiny conflict, barely noticeable in another age, became the catalyst that gradually unleashed The Great War. Like ripples on still water, it spread over the planet consuming more and more countries in a bloody massacre. Over time war became methodical, the norm; the original cause of Mans near-extermination was forgotten.

Earth's colonies on the Moon and Mars escaped the madness…at first. As targets on Earth became fewer, the colonies became the new arena for military operations. The Moon didn’t last long. It was hit with a flurry of thermonuclear weapons that vaporized all traces of life in a single day. Perhaps they were lucky - to die suddenly, and without suffering the agony and lingering death of radiation poisoning and starvation.

Mars. Roman God of War. Aptly named, for the Red Planet was now consumed with war. Some Martian leaders, seeing an opportunity to gain power, added fuel to an already blazing firestorm, producing a veritable hurricane of hatred. As inevitable as night is to dusk, an evil shadow fell across the planet. Total war. Slaughter. Rivers of blood…only, blood flows more slowly on Mars.

Across the planet was chaos. With no central government, anarchy ruled and hundreds of armies, disorganized and with no clear goals, fought each other with all the technological might available. A short time passed… With wonderful technologies always come horrible weapons, weapons of unthinkable power that could only hasten humanity’s annihilation.

Eventually, the war began to wind down. Mankind was tired of war, but the fact was that there wasn’t anyone or anything left to wage it with. What remained of the human race could hardly be called “civilization” – it was a modern Stone Age.

Among the small groups of survivors – tribes, really – appeared leaders who had vision, who could see opportunity in the chaos all around them. They began the arduous task of re-establishing relations with the other isolated tribes of Mars. Over time they were able to build a minimal communications network, and this simple cooperation evolved into what is now the United Nations…a federation of tribes based on the old international organization of Earth. History repeats itself: The former glory of Mankind might still be restored!

Game goals

A players forms (creates) a country, and the goal is to survive and become stronger than all who oppose you. From diplomacy to war, the player must use every resource at there disposal to become a military and economic powerhouse and ultimately to become the most powerful country on New Mars.

The player success depends solely on skills in every aspect of country management: Economics, Military planning, Espionage, and Diplomacy. For a player to achieve the goal of dominating mars they will compete with every other country for the limited land and resources of New Mars. Many of those countries have allied themselves into tight-knit organizations which are far more powerful as a group than individually.

Game servers

Once a player creates a identity (player nickname) on Mars they can then participate in several "servers." These servers allow different game play based on preference. The servers are described below with there advantages.

Primary game server

The Primary server is the standard game. Outside alliances are not allowed in order to provide a more level playing field. The game is moderately paced and provides challenges for both new and experienced players.

Alliance game server

This server runs a game in which clans/alliance are not only allowed but encouraged. This game is appropriate for all players, but is designed specifically for those who are looking to get more involved in war strategy, clan intrigue and other aspects unique to this server. Time flows faster here than it does on Primary, providing more turns per day. The clans are ranked in categories (total members, total networth and average networth).

Tournament game server

Tournament server is a fast-paced, month-long game that uses the “ladder” method to determine place and rank. After each round the best players advance to a higher level game, while each level has only a few hundred countries. This means that you play different people every month. Since this game is designed for the individual, the clan system has been disabled here.

Express game server

The version of Mars2025 for extreme players. The game from start to finish only last 48 hours long. On this server the clans and public markets have been disabled.

Time Shift server

A Real-Time Version. A country is created as on other servers but on this server your country grows while your gone. It is a divergence from the regular "war" game concept and rewards players that can stockpile commodities with in the game, also called "netters" with in the mars2025 gaming community.

Game play

Turns

Mars2025 is a turn-based text based game or MMOG. Every hour the player receives a specific number of turns, turns are server dependent and which game you are playing will determine how many turns will accumulate to a point and then are stored. Turns are stored and then released with as you accumulate, regular turns at ratio of 1:1. In other words, a player gains 2 turns ever cycle instead of one, so long as you have 'stored' turns. However, there is a maximum number of total turns/stored turns that the player can have, after which they simply fall away and are lost.

While some actions use no turns (Black Market, Country Search, Destroy Buildings), most do (Attacks, Spy Ops, Building, Cash, etc). Each turn used changes the military and economic situation depending on what strategy you are using.

Economics

Mars2025 is a MMOG that is based whole on economics, with each "colony" or country producing 5 basics commodities which are Food, Oil, Military, Technology, and Cash. As your colony grows in land, it grows in amount that it is worth (called networth). To enhance production of certain commodities you can build structures to help build and produce a stronger country.

Government

The player as the leader of a country must select a form of government to maintain their country. Each government has its advantages and disadvantages, and so players must select the government that best suits their playing style.

Technology

As with any economy as the player gains technology so does the efficiency and productivity of there country. This is the same in Mars2025, as you build (or buy) more technology, you country gains in certain areas, as determined by the specific technology

Military

Mars2025 is a "war" based game, and thus has a heavy emphasis on attacking other countries to gain strategic advantages. Mars2025 allows you to specialize your army to advantage (and by implications disadvantages) based on which military you choose to produce (or buy)
