Bandô Kakitsu I was a Kabuki actor in the Uzaemon acting lineage, also commonly known as Ichimura Uzaemon XIV. He was an influential actor during Japan’s Kaei era through the Meiji era. He is best known for his wagotoshi roles.

Early Life

Bandô Kakitsu I was born in 1847 to Kabuki actor Ichimura Takenojô V. On November of 1848, Kakitsu appears on stage for the first time and christened with the name Ichimura Takematsu III. Career

In August 1868, Kakitsu takes the name Ichimura Uzaemon XIV in a traditional actor naming ceremony called a Shûmei. He becomes the zamoto of the Ichimuraza. . Aragorô, Shôriya. "Bandô Kakitsu I." Kabuki21. 6 June 2008. 5 July 2008 . ]

In November 1868, he produces the play Kanadehon Chûshingura, playing the roles of n'ya Hangan, Ôboshi Rikiya and Ashikaga Takauji.

September 1871 brings debt to the Ichimuraza too great for Kakitsu to handle, forcing him to leave the theater to Fukuchi Mohei, who changes the name to Murayamaza.

Kakitsu returns in November 1871 to play in the classic Yoshitsune Sembon Zakura.

Kakitsu appears on stage for the last time in March of 1893 in the drama Yamabiraki Meguro Shinfuji. He passes away soon afterward.
