British Indian Army it was formed by the amalgamation of the18th King George's Own Lancers and the19th Lancers (Fane's Horse) .The history of the 19th (King George's Own) Lancers extends back to the years immediately following theIndian Mutiny , when the 2nd Regiment of Mahratta Horse was raised atGwalior in 1858 and Fane's Horse was raised atCawnpore in 1860. These two units, which later became the18th King George's Own Lancers and the19th Lancers (Fane's Horse) respectively, were amalgamated in 1922 under their present designation.They had previously seen service in Northern India,
China during theSecond Opium War andAfghanistan during theSecond Afghan War and theBattle of Ahmed Khel and, in theGreat War , inFrance wher the were involved in theBattle of Ypres theBattle of the Somme the German withdrawal to theHindenburg Line theBattle of Cayeux theBattle of Arras theBattle of Cambrai in 1918 they moved toEgypt for thePalestine Campaign wher they were attached to the4th Cavalry Division for theBattle of Tel el Kebir the advance to theJordan Valley and the capture ofDamascus and theBattle of Aleppo . John Gaylor,] [cite web|title= usiofindia|url=http://www.usiofindia.org/article_Jan_Mar05_11.htm] InWorld War II they were the divisional recommaissance regiment of the25th Infantry Division (India) .There original role was to counter any attempted Japanese invasion of India while at the same time training actively for jungle warfare. They saw the first action,in theBattle of Arakan in March 1944.In November 1944, supported by destroyers of the Royal Australian Navy, the division cleared theMayu Range down to Foul Point and occupiedAkyab Island . These actions included the decisiveBattle of Kangaw and landings atMyebon andRuywa to intercept the retreating Japanese.In April 1945 the division was withdrawn to South India and attached to the50th Indian Tank Brigade , to prepare for the invasion ofMalaya , having been chosen for the assault landing role. Although hostilities then ceased, the operation proceeded as planned and 25th Division was the first formation to land in Malaya, occupying the capital,Kuala Lumpur , and then accepting the surrender of the Japanese Army.18th King Geoge's Own Lancers
