This ancient road in the commune of Montmartre is the result of rectification and re-arrangement of several dirt-roads leading to the Blanche barrier (
Place Blanche ). It started life as "Chemin-neuf" (Le "chemin-vieux" wasrue de Ravignan ). In 1852 it was renamed rue de l"'Empereur", and renamed again in 1864, after the GeneralLouis Lepic (1765-1827).Rue Lepic climbs the hill of Montmartre from the

Jackie Sardou opened their famous cabaret "Chez Fernand Sardou" on the road in place of "cabaret Belzébuth" next to the residence ofUtrillo . The cabaret became the preferred haunt of the night-owls, and played to a full house every night.Michel Sardou had his professional début there, firstly as a server.In the
