New York State Assembly member from1949 to1952 and state senator from1955 to1956 .Curry's 1948 campaign for New York state assembly made the establishment of a free college for Staten Island his primary objective, if elected. Curry's victory paved the way for public higher education on
Staten Island ,New York . He eventually lost his senate seat toJohn Marchi , who would serve a record fifty years as a New York state senator.Curry was born on June 18, 1910, in New Dorp, Staten Island, Richmond County, New York State, and died ---. Curry served in the
U.S. Navy duringthe Second World War . He was a member of theAmerican Legion , Forty and Eight, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Elks. His political career included being a member of the New York state assembly from Richmond County's 2nd District from 1949 to 1952, and member of the New York state senate 19th District from 1955 to 1956.
