Abdirahman bin Isma'il al-Jabarti

The common ancestor of the Darod clan and a descendant of the Banu Hashim clan, the clan that the Prophet Muhammad clan belonged to. Abdirahman descended from Muhamad ibn Aqil ibn Abi Talib, cousin of the Prophet.

Biography and Lineage

Abdirahman bin Ismail, more commonly known as Darod, was a member of the Banu Hashim clan.

His lineage is: Abdirahmaan Bin Ismaa'iil Bin Ibraahim Bin Abdirahmaan Bin Muhammed Bin Abdi Samad Bin Hanbal Bin Mahdi Bin Ahmed Bin Abdalle Bin Muhammed Bin Aqail Bin Abu-Talib Bin Abdul-Mutalib Bin Hashim Bin Qusaya.

As the lineage shows, he descends from Abu Talib, the uncle of the Prophet Muhammad, making Abdirahman related to the Prophet of Islam.A few Somalians doubt this lineage, but the vast majority of historians and Somalians believe in this lineage. Furthermore, he did bring a sheet of paper with him when he arrived in Northwestern Somalia, and this paper contained his lineage.

History

Abdirahman bin Ismail Al-Jabarti was born in the Hejaz, the province that contains the two holy Islamic cities, Mecca and Medina. His exact date of birth is unknown, but many believe he lived in the 12th century.

Reasons for his coming to Somalia are unknown, but he did arrive and married the daughter of the local Dir chief.
