Atlanta hip hop is a scene of hip hop music in and around Atlanta, Georgia and is part of the Southern hip hop scene. The subjects, the beats, and the rappers are unique then to any other scene in Southern Rap. Georgia Rappers have deep state pride, and it comes through in their music. Rappers such as Lil Jon, Pastor Troy, D.S.G.B, BoneCrusher, and T.I., have extremely violent lyrics, with little or no relation to the usual "big rims" "snap yo fingaz" "soulja boy" "ring tone rap" style of Southern Rap. Atlanta is the home for Georgia rap, but there are other rappers from around the state (i.e. Young Jeezy, who is from Macon and both members of Field Mob who are from Albany, Georgia). Outkast and Goodie Mob put Atlanta on the map in the mid 1990s, and tend to stress less violent but equally provincial themes, though as they have achieved greater fame, Outkast's lyrics have evolved to become more varied. Other artists had big hots in the late 1990s, including Witchdoctor and Cool Breeze. Big names in Atlanta rap promotion, production, and distribution include LaFace Records (started by BabyFace), So So Def, Organized Noise, and the Dungeon Family. Some of the rappers who originated from the Southern States include rap duo OutKast and rap group Goodie Mob. They became one of the groups who were instrumental in the emergence of the Dirty South rap industry in Atlanta, Georgia. Dirty South rap is characterized by older rap styles with southern music, accents and themes.

ubjects Discussed

The subjects of Atlanta, Georgia Rappers varies from artist to artist. Some artist rap about the violence found within neighborhoods, drug movement, fighting, and especially state pride. Now, some atlanta rappers are just talking about bricks, all white bricks, off white bricks, all tan bricks..... State Pride plays a large role in Georgia Rap as can be determined by the references to the Atlanta monuments and teams such as the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons, clubs and specific neighborhoods/towns in the Atlanta area (e.g., College Park, East Point, Decatur, Alpharetta, Cumming, Marrieta).

In newer forms of Georgia rap there has been the emergence of party/club scene and snap music such as those of Lil Jon, the Ying Yang Twins, and Soulja Boy. Further more, a new face of Atlanta rap has emerged on the scene over the past couple of years. Groups like Outkast and Goodie Mob have paved a way for new school atlanta rappers to have some sort of lyrical content. Artists like TI, Ludacris, have said to be more of the lyrical rappers in the A-town.

Collaboration

Georgia rap often collaborates with Louisiana rappers (Mannie Fresh, Juvenile, Lil Wayne), Mississippi (David Banner),Houston (Mike Jones),(Chamillionaire) (Scarface), and many other Southern scenes.
