Chris Stuart-Clark

Chris Stuart-Clark

Chris Stuart-Clark attended the University of Cambridge and was a member of the prestigious Cambridge University Footlights Club at the same time as John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie, David Hatch and Jonathan Lynn. He was a member of the original cast of the very successful revue "A Clump of Plinths" at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, with John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Bill Oddie, David Hatch and Jo Kendall) which later transferred to the West End in London under the new title "Cambridge Circus". When Chris Stuart-Clarke left comedy to become a schoolteacher, his place within the "Cambridge Circus" revue was taken over by Jonathan Lynn for the revue's tour of New Zealand and Broadway.

It is possible that the character name of "Dick Stuart-Clark" in the television medical comedy series "Doctor in the House" might have been named by Chris Stuart-Clark's Footlights friends, as a tribute to him, as the writers of the first series of the television comedy series were his University friends (John Cleese & Graham Chapman and Graeme Garden & Bill Oddie).
