Tokyo DisneySea , began operation on July 21, 2005. Created byWalt Disney Imagineering , the attraction takes guests on a thrilling, high-speed ride through the ruins of an ancient ceremonial site, visually based on the Incan buildings inThe Emperor's New Groove . The attraction is located in Tokyo DisneySea's Lost River Delta section.According to Tokyo DisneySea legend, when restoration work began on two giant statues unearthed in the Lost River Delta, an unfortunate consequence was the awakening of mysterious spirits that reside in the ominous idols. Now, the multi-headed snake statue, the symbol of the God of Water, spews cold liquid everywhere, while the stone statue of the God of Fire is surrounded by shimmering flames.
Much like the roller coaster design on which it is based -- the
Indiana Jones et le Temple du Péril attraction at Disneyland Paris -- guests riding Raging Spirits board hopper cars that propel them along tracks around the archeological excavation site. Riders pass the vengeful statues and through bursts of water and flame before experiencing a 360-degree loop followed by a plunge into a steam-filled sinkhole.
