About 500 middle school students had gone to
protest at thepublic security bureau , but they were turned away and beaten. The girl's uncle, a local teacher, was beaten when he questioned thepolice . Rumors have been circulating that the uncledied from injuries at the local hospital but this was not confirmed. The government has launched a campaign to defuse protest ahead of the Beijing Olympics to continue carrying out social harmony and stability.
