Born in California and brought up in Canada and France, Stephen Day has enjoyed an exotic and varied life as a composer, producer, instrumentalist, vocalist and teacher. After studying sarod with world-renowned sarod player
Ustad Amjad Ali Khan in India for three years, Stephen embarked on various tours throughout the world. He works in multiple genres, including Western classical, Indian classical, jazz, folk, and rock music. Credits range from scoring portions of the film "Formula 51 ", staringSamuel L. Jackson , to founding a soon to be non-profit organization, [http://www.ombience.org/ Ombience] , which is dedicated to spreading spirituality through art.Stephen Day's performance career has taken him to twenty one countries throughout Europe, North America and Asia. His audiences are comprised of people from all nations, caste and creed who are seeking to enrich their own spiritual awareness. He has shared the stage with some of the great maestros of Indian classical music, including Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, his sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash (sarod), Nishat Khan (sitar), Sukivinder Singh (tabla), and Pratap Pawar (dance). Ombience works with various individuals, groups, organizations and institutions in society to raise awareness of the spiritual nature of the arts and of the creative and spontaneous nature of spirituality. Ombience, literally meaning the ambience of Om, was thus born and has since worked with various institutions, including the California State Public School system (K-12), California State Universities and Colleges, private schools, art and music festivals, museums, and yoga and meditation organizations. The performing arts group has performed at major venues including the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, Cal State Berkeley’s Wheeler Hall, and at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles.
