Year of the Devil ( _cs. Rok ďábla) directed by Petr Zelenka is a 2002 Czech Republic fictional documentary film. All musicians following in this movie was playing themselves: czech folk music band Čechomor, musicians and poets Jaromír Nohavica, Karel Plihal and british musician and composer Jaz Coleman.

toryline

Jan Holman Dutch documentary film director due to personal reason goes to Czech Republic to make documentary film about curing the alcoholism. One of the anonymous alcoholic meetings he meets Jaromir Nohavica and become his friend. When Nohavica's friend Karel Plihal stops talking he decides to start a tour with Čechomor band to help him. When Jan Holman follows them with his camera he discoveres how famous Nohavica is, and that during this tour many unexplained things happens.

Awards and nominations

It was awarded the Crystal Globe at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and won the "Findling" Award and the FIPRESCI Prize at the Cottbus Film Festival of Young East European Cinema in 2002. In 2003 it won 6 Czech Lions, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Editing, and was nominated for 5 more, including Best Sceenplay and Best Cinematography. In the same year it won the Prize Trieste at the Trieste Film Festival.

Soundtrack

The film includes two pieces by the Killing Joke: "Frenzy" and "Exorcism".
