Heinz Peter Knes

Heinz Peter Knes is a photographer, born in 1969 in Gemünden am Main, Germany.

Heinz Peter Knes studied photography in Cologne, before moving to Berlin. His work has been published in several international magazines, including "i-D, Liebling, Butt" and "Nylon."

Knes became known outside Germany when his photos were featured on the cover of "Butt", [ [http://www.buttmagazine.com/?p=238 buttmagazine.com/?p=238] ] with which he has collaborated several times. His contributions to the magazine have been gathered in the anthology "Best of Butt", published by Taschen and prepared by the editors of "Butt" and German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans.

Knes has exhibited in the past years in Paris, Los Angeles, [ [http://www.peresprojects.com/exhibit-overview/66/0/?PHPSESSID=4089f4b2d49535059ed902befd3cc80e peresprojects.com page] ] Amsterdam, Berlin and Cologne. In 2008, the Cobra Museum of Modern Art included his series of portraits in the exhibition "Gewoon Anders/ Just Different", [ [http://www.doingbeyondgender.net/cms/en/189/?c=Art_Exhibition doingbeyondgender.net page] ] including his pictures of Genesis P. Orridge as a transexual woman. The exhibition [ [http://www.cobra-gewoonanders.nl http://www.cobra-gewoonanders.nl] ] questions issues of gender and politics, and includes works of artists such as General Idea, Gilbert & George, Nan Goldin, Richard Hawkins, David Hockney, Robert Mapplethorpe, Tracey Moffatt, Erwin Olaf, Francesco Vezzoli and David Wojnarowicz.

His latest solo exhibition (as of June 2008) was at the 42nd edition of Art Cologne.Fact|date=July 2008 Knes is represented by Crone, a Berlin-based gallery which concentrates on the works of German artists, including Norbert Bisky, Rosemarie Trockel and Albert Oehlen.
