John Philip Wiser (
October 4 1825 –April 30 1911 ) was an American-born manufacturer, rancher and political figure inOntario , Canada. He representedGrenville South in theCanadian House of Commons from 1878 to 1882 as a Liberal member.He was born in
Oneida County, New York , the son of Isaac J. Wiser and Mary Egert. In 1856, he married Emily, the daughter ofHarlow Godard . Wiser moved toPrescott, Ontario in 1857 after Averell and Egert purchased a distillery there; he started as manager and, five years later, took over the business. At one time, it was the third largest distillery in Canada. Wiser also operated a large farm, raising cattle and racing horses.After Wiser's death, the distillery in Prescott was merged with
