- George Gilman Rushby
George Gilman Rushby (1900 – 1968) was born in
England and died inAfrica . He was anelephant hunter ,poacher , prospector, farmer, forestry officer, and Game Ranger. He was the leading elephant hunter of the 20th Century. He was responsible for the hunting down of The Man-eaters of Njombe - a pride of lions that had killed and devoured over 1500 people reputedly under the influence of a witchdoctor named Matamula Mangera. George Rushby was the subject of several biographies listed below, and the subject of theBBC Natural History Unit Drama Documentary, staring Adrian Rawlins, called “The Man-eating Lions of Njombe.” Broadcast on BBC2 in July 2005.References
