November 1 ,1964 Fact|date=September 2008) is the currentUnited States Solicitor General . He spent his early life in his hometown of Barrington,Illinois . He received his undergraduate degree fromDartmouth College in 1987 and his law degree fromGeorge Washington University in 1991. Garre clerked for Chief JudgeAnthony Joseph Scirica of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and then for Chief JusticeWilliam H. Rehnquist . He then went into private practice with the Washington D.C. firmHogan & Hartson , from 1993 to 2000. In September 2000, Garre joined the office of the Solicitor General and in July 2004 returned to Hogan & Hartson. In September 2005, Garre returned to the Solicitor General's office as Deputy Solicitor General.As Principal Deputy Solicitor General, Garre became Acting Solicitor General upon the resignation of his predecessor
