Classical history

* Alcis, an epithet of the Greek goddess Athena, from a Greek word meaning "strong" or "mighty", under which she was worshi­ped in Macedonia [Livius ( [14 BC] ), Schmitz (1867)] . Several coins of the Antigonid dynasty and the Greek kings of India feature depictions of Athena Alcis, typically helmeted and hurling a thunderbolt [Ferguson (1913): pp.193-194]
* Alcis (gods), twin gods worshiped by the Naharvali, a tribe of ancient Germanic peoples
* Alcis, the father of the diviner Tisis, mentioned by Pausanias. [Pausanias, "Description of Greece" iv. 9. 3]
* Alcis, one of the daughters of Antipoios of Thebes, who, along with her sister Androcleia, sacrificed herself to save her city. [Patterson (2004): p.75]
* Alcis, a son of Aegyptus who married the Danaid Glauce. [Pseudo-Apollodorus 1. § 5.]
