Ricky Samaratana

Ricky Samaratana was a professional American Lightweight boxer from Miami, Florida. Samaratana was born in Boston, Massachusetts. As an amateur Samaratana won several Golden Gloves titles in Boston. Additionally, Samaratana served in Vietnam with the United States Army.

Samaratana started his professional boxing career in Miami Beach, Florida. On December 26, 1972 Samarantana lost his professional boxing debut on a four round decision to Leroy Walker (boxer) at the Miami Beach Auditorium now known as the Jackie Gleason Theatre. After this loss in 1973 Samarantana ran off five straight victories at the Miami Beach Auditorium.

During this period of time Samarantana signed a contract with the Mendoza Group. The Mendoza Group was a group of businessman whom decided to get involved in Boxing. They signed such boxers as Vinnie Curto, Marcel Clay, Roberto Ayala and Samarantana to contracts.

On September 18, 1973 Samarantana lost a six round decision to Leroy Walker (boxer) at the Convention Hall on Miami Beach. After losing twice to Leroy Walker (boxer), Samarantana finally defeated Leroy Walker (boxer) by eight round decision on February 19, 1974.

On April 23, 1974 Samaratana suffered a setback when he was defeated by veteran Jose Peterson.

Samarantana's unofficial professional record was eight wins three losses and two draws.
