Roy Hollis (boxer)

Roy Hollis was a professional American Middleweight boxer from Los Angeles, California. Before embarking on a professional boxing career Hollis was an outstanding amateur boxer. Among his accomplishments he won the 1973 Los Angeles Golden Gloves and also won the 1973 165-lb. division at the National Golden Gloves tournament.

Hollis turned professional on December 6, 1973 at the famed Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles. Hollis scored a four-round decision over Richard Chavez. On July 9, 1974 at the Forum in Inglewood, California Hollis was knocked down in his fight with Jimmy Jackson but recovered and knocked out Jackson in the second round.

Hollis suffered his first defeat on August 29, 1974 when he lost a six-round decision to undefeated Karl Vinson at Oakland, California. On October 4, 1975 Hollis was very impressive in knocking out Cole St. John in one round at the Olympic Auditorium. In November 1975 Hollis was defeated in consecutive weeks by slick boxer Jeff Morgan. In both fights Hollis lost seven-round decisions.

After taking almost two years off from boxing, Hollis returned on September 13, 1977 and fought a six-round draw with Marvin Sanders at the Olympic Auditorium. On October 20, 1977 Hollis scored a six-round decision over Arthur Roddy.

During his professional career Hollis fought nine times at the historic Olympic Auditorium.

His unofficial professional record was nine wins three losses and two draws.
