Elle Girl

"Elle Girl" was the largest older-teen fashion and beauty magazine brand in the world with 12 editions and supplements worldwide. Launched in August 2001, it was the younger sibling to Elle Magazine, and similarly focused on beauty, health, entertainment and looked at daring fashion - its slogan: "Dare to be different".

Its staffers were informed in early April 2006 that "Elle Girl" (USA)'s last issue would be its June/July 2006 Summer Issue, while they were already in the middle of working on the August 2006 issue, which is traditionally the largest issue of the year -- covering fall fashion and back-to-school topics. The company intends to continue updating the [http://www.ellegirl.com ellegirl.com] website and create new media in conjunction with [http://www.alloy.com Alloy.com] , some of which will be exclusive subscription-only content, and has plans to publish biannual special issues. The British edition of Elle Girl magazine had been closed for business shortly before the American magazine was.

Hachette Filipacchi CEO Jack Kliger (who was also responsible for shuttering three other Hachette magazines -- "George", "Mirabella", and "Travel Holiday" [http://reporter.blogs.com/risky/2006/04/celeb_weeklies_.html] ) on "Elle Girl's" future on the internet: "When teen girls are not on the Web, they are on their cells. The company will keep the website and work on Elle Girl ringtones, wallpaper mobile pages and projects in the mobile blogging area."

ELLEgirl.com relaunched in early 2008 after parting ways with Alloy. The new version includes a blog, more simple navigation, and a strengthened alliance with ELLE.com under Executive Editor Keith Pollock.

International editions are published in South Korea, the Netherlands, Quebec, Taiwan, Japan, Russia, France, Germany and China. Three teen magazines have now folded under [http://www.womensenews.org/article.cfm/dyn/aid/833/context/jounalistofthemonth Christina Kelly] as Editor in Chief: first "Sassy", then "YM", and most recently "Elle Girl", which only lasted five issues under Kelly.
