"The Song Remembers When" is a slow ballad written by Hugh Prestwood and was written for the title track of her third studio album. The song is about a woman who hears a song while waiting for change at a store. She remembers that this was the song she listened to with her ex-lover, and hearing the song brought back the memory of when the woman and her lover were together. The woman remembers how she tried get rid of the memory while standing at the counter:

::"After driving out the memory, of the way things might have been"::"After I've forgotten all about us"::"The song remembers when."

The woman remembers when she first heard the song out in the Rocky Mountains, and how much she liked the song. However then she remembers, the relationship with her lover ended, but she couldn't remember why. The basic theme of the song is although she might have forgotten the memory of her relationship, the song helps her remember when it happened.
