Launched in 1998, the company was hit hard by lower than expected user numbers, forcing it to scale back ambitious plans to expand into mainland Europe.

In June 2000 it purchased classified advertising company Loot for £189.9m only to sell it to Daily Mail and General Trust for £45m in August 2001 when it ran out of money. cite news
