- Grand Prix World
Grand Prix World (GPW) is a sequel to both
Grand Prix Manager andGrand Prix Manager 2 released in 2000, again designed and produced by Edward Grabowski Communications Ltd [Edward Grabowski Communications Ltd] , and Microprose. It is based around the1998 Formula One season , and is again officiallyFIA licensed.Major Differences Between GPW and
Grand Prix Manager 2 Grand Prix World is very different to the proceeding games, even though they largely share the same code base, the major changes coming in the interface design and negotiation modules with sponsors, drivers, engineers. This results in less 'freak' results such as player being able to sign top line drivers for the bottom ranking teams, or being able to score points with said teams without major reorganisation of the team.
GPW also has no internal editor, so simple editing as possible in both of the previous games was not possible without the use of a 3rd party editor.
Game Intro
The game again saw the player taking control of one of the 11 F1 teams participating in the
1998 Formula One season , however team names or details could not be changed within the game itself. This was only able to be done using a 3rd party editor.Windows 2000, XP, Vista Compatibility Issues
The game was not compatible with Windows 2000, the use of "Windows 98 Compatibility Mode" being required to make the game work in these later operating systems, ALT and TAB functionality is also not available, resulting in a crash of the game.
Game Community and Updates
One official patch was released by the games designers and is available from their website.
This game still has an active community built around it with season updates being produced.
Trivia
Jacques Villeneuve once again is not named or photographed in the original version of the game. He is instead replaced by 'John Newhouse' an English translation of the Canadians names, with the correct statistics. This was due to a licensing issue, resulting in Villeneuve being removed from the game, although his statistics were correct. The same event occurred inGrand Prix Manager 2 , and in the unrelated gameGrand Prix 3 .The 3d engine uses still pictures of each corner with the animated cars driving across them. However on some corners the developers have accidently got the turn the wrong way round, meaning the cars drive through the corner in the wrong direction.
