Dr Paul S Ell is an academic at the [http://www.qub.ac.uk Queen's University of Belfast] . He is Director of [http://www.qub.ac.uk the Centre for Data Digitisation and Analysis] within the [http://www.qub.ac.uk/gap School of Geography, Archaeology and Palaeoecology] .
He holds a BA in History and Geography, an MA in English Local History, and a PhD in Geography. His research interests focus on historical geography, the development of electronic research resources, e-Science and Grid technology, and geographical information systems - particularly applied in the Humanities. He is a world-leading authority in
Historical GIS and was one of the developers of theGreat Britain Historical GIS .He has published several books including two with Cambridge University Press: "Rival Jerusalems: The geography of Victorian religion" with
KDM Snell and "Historical GIS: Technologies, Methodologies, and Scholarship" withIan Gregory .Paul Ell provides training sessions in GIS, the use of electronic resources, and approaches to writing grants within the University. He teaches GIS in the School's MSc programme.
