- Keokradong
Keokradong (or Keokradang) ( _bn. কেওক্রাডং) is the third highest
mountain peak located in South-EasternBangladesh . It was long claimed as the highest peak there, a mistaken information that still features in respected sources including some Bangladeshtextbooks as well as the CIA World Factbook website.Controversy
Although it is widely reported to be the highest point in Bangladesh at 1230 metres, [ [https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/fields/2020.html CIA: the World Factbook] ] recent
SRTM data,GPS readings and Russian topographic mapping show that its true height is less than 1,000 metres. On the top of Keokradong there is a small shelter and a signboard put up by the Bangladeshi military proclaiming the altitude to be 3172 feet. Garmin
GPS recorded 974 metres (3196 feet) at this location, a measurement consistent with Russian topographic mapping andSRTM data. It is at coord|21|57|00|N|92|30|53|E. USGS and Russian mapping dispute the claim that this is the location correctly named Keokradong; they show Keokradong at an 883m summit further north.Other Bangladesh peaks
Tazing Dong
Another peak that is sometimes claimed to be the highest peak of Bangladesh is nearby Tazing Dong (sometimes spelled as Tahjingdong, and also known as Bijoy). It has been claimed to be 1,280 metres. [Masud Hasan Chowdhury, [http://www.banglapedia.org/HT/P_0166.HTM Physiography] ,
Banglapedia ] Its exact location is unclear but neither Russian topographic mapping [ [http://www.viewfinderpanoramas.org/drg/tazingdong.jpgRelevant section of Russian map] ] norSRTM data show anything in the area exceeding 1,000 metres.Mowdok Mual
The true high point of Bangladesh is a summit in the Mowdok range called Mowdok Mual [Bao-Rong Lu,Generai information of the areas visited and the collecting routes, " [http://www.irri.org/GRC/Biodiversity/Pdf%20files/BGD%20pdf/bgd3.pdf A Report On BRRI-IRRI Cooperative Collection of Wild Oryza Species In Bangladesh] ", page 5,

In February 2006 a GPS reading of 1,064 metres was recorded on this summit by English adventurer Ginge Fullen. The location he recorded, coord|21|47|11|N|92|36|36|E, accurately matches the location given by Russian topographic mapping andSRTM data, although these sources show its height to be slightly lower, at 1,052 metres. In 2 January 2008 another team declared and claimed it as country's highest point.Fact|date=January 2008 The hight they measured was 3488 feet (1063.14 meters) which is very close to Fullen's measurement. The location matches exactly. There is a controversy around whether the peak belongs to Bangladesh or to Myanmar, as the area remains largely unsurveyed.Fact|date=August 2008
