Greetham, Rutland

Greetham is a village in the county of Rutland in the East Midlands of England with a population of about 450.

It [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/731298 lies] on the [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/188353 B668] between the county town of Oakham and the A1 and on the north-south Viking Way long distance footpath [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/169673 running] between the Humber Bridge and Oakham.

The parish [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/114110 church] of St Mary the Virgin has a fine spire, which can be seen from [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/138035 some distance] .

Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust owns Merry's Meadows nature reserve, a SSSI in the parish which is important for species characteristic of unimproved grassland. To the east of the village just before the "Sewstern Lane" junction, just north of the B668 is [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/114398 Greetham Lime Quarry] owned by the [http://www.dickersongroup.co.uk/pages/location.html Dickerson Group] of Waterbeach. .

The village is home to three pubs, the "Plough", the " [http://www.restaurant-guide.com/black-horse-inn-the-1.htm Black Horse Inn] " and the " [http://www.pub-explorer.com/olpg/the-wheatsheaf-inn/greetham/index.htm Wheatsheaf] ", all on the B668. A garden centre lies to the west of the village and to the east is the Greetham Valley golf course. On the A1 near Stretton, was a former pub called the "Olde Greetham Inn", now owned by [http://www.cidlimited.com Construction Interior Design] . Towards Cottesmore on the right is the [http://www.rutnet.co.uk/customers/greethamgarden/default.htm Greetham Garden Centre] with "Penny's Tearoom".
