Built in 1898, it was designed byJulius A. Culbreth (1871-1950) for prayer meetings and was built using wood from trees that had been uprooted by atornado . Culbreth, who was the founder of Falcon, chose the octagon shape because it reminded him of the tents used in revival meetings. In 1900 the building became the home of the Falcon Pentecostal Holiness Church, of which Culbreth was a leader.cite web|url=http://www.nr.nps.gov/|title=National Register Information System|date=2008-04-15|work=National Register of Historic Places|publisher=National Park Service] [ [http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WMH2Z Waymarking listing for Octagon Tabernacle, Falcon, North Carolina] ] [ [ [http://www.cumberlandcounty250.com/1905notables.html Cumberland County 250: Short biography of Julius A.
