Global Energy Basel

Global Energy Basel is an annual conference organised by Swiss Exhibition in Basel, Switzerland. It is a partnering platform for exponents of sustainable energy solutions. Representatives from industry, government, administration, science and NGO's present exemplary solutions for secure and sustainable energy supply in the context of large infrastructure and urban development projects. Critical factors for successfully establishing the strategic partnerships necessary for implementing such projects are addressed.

The inaugural Global Energy Basel will take place from 12 to 14 November 2008 at the Congress Center Basel, Switzerland.

Topics

Global Energy Basel is focused on developing new partnerships between the public and private sectors. The event looks beyond strict definitions of individual market segments. Sustainability-oriented urban planning, such as in the case of so-called eco towns, is as much a focal point of Global Energy Basel as energy-saving urban, rural and industrial infrastructure planning. Mobility and transportation issues are also taken into account alongside energy and water supply considerations. Further, the basic financial and political conditions of such projects are discussed.

Speakers

The broad array of specialised fields and sectors that Global Energy Basel will bring together for discussions is witnessed by the list of speakers and moderators taking part, including star architect Jacques Herzog, Nobel Peace Prize-winner Rajendra Pachauri, media expert Vijay Vaitheeswaran from The Economist, and Amory B. Lovins from the Rocky Mountain Institute.

Partners

The partners of Global Energy Basel are the World Economic Forum, ICLEI (Local Governments for Sustainability), the Swiss Government and the Government of Basel-City, as well as the UN Global Compact.
