Hou Debang

Hou Debang (Chinese: 侯德榜; 1890 - 1974) was an outstanding scientist and chemical engineer of China. He was the founder of China's modern chemical industry.

He graduated from Tsinghua University in 1912, and was sent to study at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He later got his doctor degree at Columbia University.

Among his activities was to create a reaction alternative to the solvay process to make sodium carbonate

Hou was elected a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1955.
