Puttige Matha Guru Parampara

Puttige Matha Guru Parampara is the lineage of Swamijis or pontiffs who have headed the Puttige matha, one of the Ashta Mathas of Udupi [ [http://www.dvaita.org/madhva/udupi/car_street.html Udupi Ashta Mathas] ] . The first pontiff of Puttige matha was Sri Upendra Tirtha [ [http://krishnabrunda.org/php/PuthigeMatha.php Shree Krishna Brundaavanam - Puttige Matha] ] , who was a direct disciple of Sri Madhvacharya, the founder of the Dvaita school of philosophy. The main idols worshipped in the Puttige matha are that of Panduranga Vittala [ [http://www.thehindu.com/2008/01/19/stories/2008011955190100.htm Article in The Hindu] ] , which was given to Sri Upendra Tirtha by Sri Madhvacharya. Till date, there have been 29 pontiffs who have headed the matha.

The current Swamiji of the matha is Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji.
