The 1989 Open Championship was the 118th Open Championship held from July 20-23, 1989 at the Royal Troon Golf Club in Troon, Scotland. Mark Calcavecchia won his first major championship by winning in a four-hole playoff in Open Championship history over Greg Norman and Wayne Grady. This marked the first time in Open Championship history where extra holes were reduced from an 18-hole playoff the next day to a four-hole playoff immediately after the final round.
