"Garbadge Man" is a song by Hole from their 1991 album "Pretty on the Inside". The name of the song "Garbadge Man" is intentionally misspelled. Video

"Garbadge Man" is notable as being Hole's first music video, and the only video made for their first album, Pretty on the Inside. The video is very abstract, with shots of Courtney Love in a car interspersed with shots of the band playing out the window. It was played on MTV twice, in 1994 and 1995 [ [http://www.altmusictv.com/120/archive_mtvclassic.html] ] , but was never popular and was never released as a single.

For the video, the song was entirely rerecorded with many changes. Most obviously, it removed all of the profanity and shortened the song by removing most of the feedback-lading outro. There were also several minor changes in phrasing, especially evident in the last verse.

Meaning

The lyrics discuss many themes that were common in Hole songs at the time. The first verse explores topics of religious decay. The chorus questions the conventional religious ideas that "God will always be there" as well as striking out at an unnamed person in the singer's life. The end of the song references Love's feelings for the people in Olympia, Washington, saying that they "all feel the same" and "all look the same," a theme that later came up on "Rock Star," a song from Hole's second album, Live Through This.
