The Quietus

The Quietus

The Quietus is an online magazine covering music and popular culture from the mid 1970s to the present day.

The Quietus was launched as a joint venture between the QuietusGroup [http://www.quietusgroup.com] and BSKYB/Sky.com. It ran as a blog since April 7, 2008, with a full website launched in early July 2008.

Writers who contribute to the Quietus include Steven Wells, Simon Reynolds, John Robb, Tommy Udo, Chris Roberts, Simon Price, Louis Pattison, Joseph Stannard, Jude Rodgers, Rebecca Nicholson and Taylor Parkes, many of whom were known for their work on magazines such as "NME", "Melody Maker" and Sounds in the 1980s and 1990s. Guest writers for the site include former Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker and Aidan Moffat, who writes a monthly sex advice column.

The Quietus was one of several websites to publish early reviews of tracks from Metallica's ninth studio album "Death Magnetic" after a listening party held in London on June 4, 2008. Metallica's management company QPrime requested that The Quietus remove the review, and the site refused. The story was widely reported in the press and online as an example of Metallica's difficult relationship with the internet.
