Mancae

Mancae

Mancae (singular: Manca) are post-larval juveniles in peracarid crustaceans. De larvae of this group are typically carried in a marsupium by the female. De last larval stage moults into a manca just before the young are released. They closely resemble the adult form, but for the absence of the last pair of pereopods. This pair needs another one to three moults to develop.
Within the superorder of Peracarida, mancae do not occur in the order of Amphipoda.

Mancae are parasites of fish in some isopodes (fishlice, family Cymothoidae).
