County General Hospital (Chicago, Illinois)

County General Hospital is a public hospital that served the city of Chicago from 1949 to 2008.

The Hospital its self is 15 minutes away by car from Grant Park. County General was built in 1949 to deal with health-care for the poor and needy. As well as to aid Cook County Hospital by taking in overflow patients. County General was one of the busiest level 1 trauma centers in Chicago aside from Cook County Hospital. The Hospital housed 12 floors,the Emergency Department on the first which housed a triage room one large main exam room 3 separated exam rooms containing 3 beds each, and one for pediatric cases. Two Trauma rooms that could double as OR's in case of a surgical emergency. The second floor housed the Cafeteria an Emergency OR for unstable trauma victims unable to wait for a General Surgery time-slot, female and male bathrooms, doctors lounge, chief residents office, and the Chief of Emergency Medicines office. The 3rd floor housed the General Surgery Department consisting of 3 OR's and four intensive care rooms for critical patients who have come out of surgery. The radiology department was also on the 3rd floor containing 3 CT Scanners and two X-RAY screening rooms as well as a film lab. The angiographical department was also on the 3rd floor consisting of 4 cath labs. The 4th floor housed OB/gyn consisting of two OR's/Delivery rooms and 9 maternity rooms. The NICU was also located on the 4th floor. The 5th floor housed the Intensive Care Unit and Pediatrics. The 6th floor housed the Pediatric Intensive care unit as well as orthopedics. The 7th floor housed Cardiology and the blood bank. The 8th floor housed The main lab, and the hospital archives which contained patients histories and medical records as well as hospital information. The 9th 10th and 11th floors contained general patient rooms most private and some curtained off. Pharmaceuticals was located on the 10th floor.
