- R. Kesava Aiyangar
R.Kesava Aiyangar was a Senior Advocate of the
Supreme Court of India . He practiced law for over 75 years both at the Supreme Court of India as well as the High Court ofMadras . He was born in 1892 in theRamanathapuram district ofTamil Nadu inIndia . He played an important role in the framing of the format of theWrit Petition in the courts of India. He was a widely recognized exponent of theHindu law . Apart from being a Senior lawyer, he was also an highly respected scholar of both Sanskrit and Tamil works. He served as the president of the Tamil sangam inTriplicane for over three years. Some of his works written during the time when he was part of the Tamil sangam includes Parthasarathymalai, Thirupadugamalai and Andalmalai. In 1974, a book named 'Vedanta Desika 'ssatadushani ' of Srivatsankacharya [http://www.hinduonnet.com/2001/08/31/stories/13310783.htm] was released. It carried an exhaustive introduction of high scholarly value by R.Kesava Aiyangar. But his magnum opus is the work in Tamil aboutThirukkural ofThiruvalluvar called 'Valluvar Ullam'. This work disputed the claims of the modernDravidian view that Thirukkural is completely independent of the Vedic thoughts ofHindu philosophy. It establishes with great authority that Thirukkural is indeed part of theVedic tradition and is not in anyway alien to it. The book was highly regarded and reviewed inThe Indian Express . R. Kesava Aiyangar passed away on November 9th 1991 at the age of 98.
