Pujehun District is a district in the Southern Province of Sierra Leone. Its capital and largest city is Gandorhun. The district has an estimated population of 262,073 [http://www.world-gazetteer.com/wg.php?x=&men=gpro&lng=en&des=wg&srt=npan&col=adhoq&msz=1500&geo=-6645] .

The district of Pujehun borders the Atlantic Ocean in the southwest, the Republic of Liberia to the southeast, Kenema District to the northeast, Bo District to the north and Bonthe District to the west. It occupies a total space of 4,105 km² and comprises twelve chiefdoms. The majority population of Pujehun District belong to the Mende ethnic group.

Demographics

At the 2004 census, the estimated population of Pujehun district was 228,392. The ethnic makeup of Pujehun District was: Mende at 75% Fact|date=July 2008 and 25% from other ethnic groups.

Economy

Diamond mining is a major economic activity in the district, as well as agricultural production of cacao, cassava, coffee, and cacao.
