The BlackBerry Javelin is a mobile phone developed by Research In Motion. Rumored release dates range from later 2008 to mid 2009. Until this phone gets officially announced, most of the specifics should be considered speculation. It was first thought to be a part of the latest 9000 series phones, however appears it will likely be labeled an 8900 series due to the lack of 3G; unlike the BlackBerry Bold 9000. The Javelin is a Quad-band GSM/EDGE phone, unlike the BlackBerry Niagara which is an EV-DO device, both with WI-FI and GPS. In the Blackberry model lineup, the Javelin appears to be a replacement for the very popular older Blackberry Curve and appears to be an upgrade in most all aspects and features. The most significant differences to the recently released and related Blackberry Bold is the Javelin is smaller and has a better camera, but lacks the faster 3G support of the Bold. Other less significant differences compared to the Bold are smaller but higher resolution Javelin screen, different USB port (mini vs. micro), Javelin's smaller keyboard, Javelin's less impressive speaker performance, Javelin's more internal memory, Javelin's slightly slower processor, and a speculated lower price for the Javelin.
