Steven M. LaValle (1968) is an American roboticist and a Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is best known for his book "Planning Algorithms", [cite book | last = Lavalle | first = Steven | title = Planning Algorithms | publisher = Cambridge University Press | location = Cambridge | year = 2006 | isbn = 0521862051 ] one of the most highly cited texts in the field.
