Born in New York City on July 1, 1981, Amanda Seales spent most of her life in
Orlando, Florida with her mother. Attending SUNY-Purchase she studied theater, however after a friend suggested she began to write her own spoken word book. In 2004, Seales who was now calling her self Diva, released her debut Mixtape entitled "It Bigger Than Hip Hop, Vol 1". After this her career began to take off, after lining up a gig on
MTV2 she soon began hosting a radio show on SIRIUS, the "Hip-Hop Nation Show". She also joined the DJ Drama/Don Cannon/DJ Sense-helmed Aphilliates crew, and published a book of poetry, all before receiving a degree in African-American studies fromColumbia University .
